The Mitchell School District’s interim superintendent was offered a two-year contract by the Mitchell School Board on Tuesday. Dr. Joe Childs has been interim superintendent for the past two months following the resignation of Dr. Joe Graves, who left to become the state’s Department of Education secretary. The offer followed a special school board meeting during which in-person interviews were conducted for the open position. The two-year contract runs through 2025 and will pay Childs $175,000 in the first year. Childs, who is a Spearfish native, has worked in the Mitchell School District for 17 years, most recently as Mitchell Senior High School principal.
