MITCHELL, S.D. (Mitchell S.D.) — MITCHELL, S.D. — The City of Mitchell is reminding residents that its annual fall leaf-collection program continues through Thursday, Nov. 21, as part of the city’s seasonal cleanup schedule.
The service allows residents to leave bagged leaves near the curb or use the city’s designated drop-off site on East 8th Avenue for unbagged yard waste. According to the city’s Street Department, crews will circulate through residential neighborhoods weekly until the program ends.
Officials emphasize that only leaves, grass clippings, and small plant debris will be accepted. Bags should not contain branches, household trash, or construction material. The city asks residents to avoid placing piles near storm drains or hydrants to prevent drainage issues during fall rains.
The leaf-collection program is part of Mitchell’s broader effort to maintain stormwater systems and prepare for winter. With early November temperatures hovering near freezing, the city encourages residents to complete yard work soon before snow arrives.
If you have any questions concerning leaf collection or disposal, please call 605-995-8465 or check our website at www.cityofmitchellsd.gov.
