Today is Election Day, and there is a school board and city combined election in the City of Mitchell.  Three candidates are running for mayor.  Six candidates are running for two seats on the Mitchell School Board.  There are also city council races in Wards 1 and 3.

Davison County Auditor Sue Kiepke says based on her observations today, voter turnout is expected to be high.

Mitchell voters can cast ballots at the MCTEA building across from Mitchell Senior High School.  Kiepke says polls close at 7 PM.  People who are in line at that time are eligible to vote.  Anyone outside of the building may not cast ballots.  The vote count will be done at the Davison County Courthouse in downtown Mitchell.  Our election coverage will begin at 8 PM

A sad note to pass along today – an elderly man passed away at the MCTEA building this morning as voting was taking place.  Emergency officials were called to the building just before 10 AM after the man, who was in his 80’s, collapsed.   He has not been identified.
