MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Mitchell is in the running to become the site of South Dakota’s new state prison, and local leaders want to hear what the community thinks. The Mitchell Area Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce have announced a series of public forums where residents can ask questions and share their thoughts. There’s an in-person forum at Mitchell Tech on June 17, a virtual option on June 18, and a community debate at Dakota Wesleyan on June 24. If chosen, the $600 million project could bring over 440 jobs and a big boost to the local economy. City and county leaders have already voiced their support, and more details are available on the City and Chamber websites. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
