MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Parking restrictions and street closures are in effect in downtown Mitchell as the city prepares for the World’s Only Corn Palace Festival, scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26, through Sunday, Aug. 30.
No parking is allowed in the east City Hall and east Disco parking lots through noon Monday, Aug. 31.
Several other lots are restricted through 9 a.m. Aug. 31, including the west City Hall lot, ACT Theatre lot, the city lot between Goodyear and TMA, the lot north of Bradley’s Pub & Grille, the east side of the Slumberland lot and the Corn Palace Plaza lot.
Street parking is prohibited through 9 a.m. Aug. 31 on North Main Street from Fifth Avenue to halfway between Eighth and Ninth avenues. Restrictions also affect portions of Sixth, Seventh and Eighth avenues near Main Street, along with Lawler Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues.
A consumption permit has also been approved for the festival. The permitted area includes Main Street from Fifth to Seventh avenues, Sixth Avenue from Main Street to the alley west of Main, Bradley’s Pub & Grille parking lot and Corn Palace Plaza.
Festival attendees and downtown visitors should review posted signs and maps when parking or traveling through the area.
