A hearing is set for June 9th in the ongoing battle between the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo, or CPS, and Horsemen’s Sport Incorporated, or HSI.  The Mitchell Daily Republic reports that HSI is trying to hold a July rodeo on the same dates that CPS had its rodeo scheduled before canceling it.  CPS has submitted a court filing asking for an injunction against HSI to bar them from holding a rodeo for 150 days.  It also asks that HSI be barred from using several names suggesting an affiliation with CPS and seeks to bar HSI from soliciting sponsorship for any rodeo events from CPS sponsors.

CPS cancelled this year’s rodeo following the verdict in a lawsuit it filed against HSI.  A jury ruled in favor of CPS after HSI moved fencing and, as part of an expansion, tore out platforms that had been built by CPS.  CPS plans on holding future rodeos on 20 acres of city-owned land near the Mitchell airport.

Although this year’s Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo has been cancelled, the parade, family fun day, and chili cook-off will still be held.
