Nearly 100 people attended the Davison County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on Tuesday night where discussion focused on a plan to build a $1.8 million gun range just west of Mitchell. The gun range would be located on the city-owned Kelley property, which is in Davison County but not within city limits, so it needs county approval.
Noise was the biggest concern followed by safety. Following the testimony from many citizens, most of whom were opposed to the gun range, the commission voted unanimously against a conditional use permit for the project. The Davison County Commission will have the final say later this month.
