Summer is filled with trips, sunshine, kicking back and… football camp fun!
The Schedule
Day two of DWU Youth Football Camp was in full swing Wednesday afternoon inside the DWU/Avera Sports & Wellness Complex. The first day events (Monday) were held outside and the activities for the second day were moved inside due to hot temperatures.
Things got started at 1pm and went through 2:30pm. It began with a warmup with the coaches and players from DWU, as well as a welcome message in the opening 10 minutes. It was followed by about 15 minutes of pro agility work. Afterwards, they got a water break to prepare themselves for a series of stations ran by different coaches of the DWU staff.
They called it “Indy” with an emphasis on defensive backs and linebackers. Which featured four stations with rotations after seven minutes.
- Station one was led by linebackers coach, Mason Frost, where they performed agile tackles into a dummy pad
- Station two was led by defensive backs coach, Bailey Berg, where kids performed what are called “45-degree breaks”
- Station three was led by new graduate assistant coach, Dexter Curry, where they did a drill called “city/country” where a coach would have the athlete run around a cone and either dive on the football and tuck it on the ground or scoop and score
- Station four was led by defensive coordinator, Chris Bessler, where kids would do pop-up tackle drills on a dummy pad
After another water break, they finished the day with a game of what they call “Tiger ball”.
What’s Next
DWU will have their final prospect camp on Sunday afternoon with check in at 11am. This week of Tiger Youth Football Camp has concluded, but they have one more week left. They will again have camp on Monday and Wednesday next week, the 14th and the 16th, to round out their youth camp. They are expected to have the same start time of 1pm and go until 2:30pm.
