The Dakota Wesleyan University Freshman Food Drive collected more than 2,200 pounds of food donated by the Mitchell community. The event was sponsored by DWU campus ministry.

About 150 freshman, along with upperclassmen, conducted the food drive on Sunday afternoon. Donations were taken to the Mitchell Food Pantry where volunteers sorted and shelved the food.

Student volunteers categorize and stock the shelves at the Mitchell Food Pantry. Donations continue to be accepted at the Food Pantry at 812 N. Rowley St., or the drop box in front of the McGovern Library on the DWU campus. (DWU Courtesy Photo)

The Freshman Food Drive at DWU has been a large part of new student orientation since 2004.

For anyone wishing to donate and was unable to on Sunday — there is a large donation box located outside of the McGovern Library this week. Donations, including fresh garden produce, can also be dropped off at the Mitchell Food Pantry during hours of operation. The Mitchell Food Pantry, located at 812 N. Rowley St., is open Mondays and Fridays from noon to 3 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-7 p.m.; and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
