Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball travels to Sioux City, Iowa on Saturday to take on Morningside. The Tigers are 3-0 on the season, but face the biggest challenge of the season against No. 6 Morningside. The Mustangs are 0-2 so far with losses to No. 20 Olivet Nazarene and Saint Xavier, which is receiving votes in the top 25 Poll.

Tigers senior point guard Kaylee Kirk is preparing for the grind that is the GPAC conference season.

“The GPAC is a tough conference, so it’s going to be a battle, but I’m excited,” Kirk said. “Everyone comes to practice ready to work (and is) buying into what we need to do … We’re kind of the underdogs this year. People aren’t expecting a lot from us, and I personally really like that because then you can go out every game and have nothing to lose.”

Against Morningside, Kirk said going in with the right mentality will be key.

“I think the main thing with Morningside is playing loose,” Kirk said. “They want you to play fast and make mistakes, and we’ve just got to go out there and play loose — use ball fakes and get them up in the air and take the open shot and not be scared to shoot the ball.”
