Several area counties have enacted burn bans due to hot and dry conditions; however, Davison County will not enact one yet. The issue was discussed at yesterday’s Davison County Commission meeting. Emergency Management Director Jeff Bathke says he has come up with a points system to help determine whether a ban should be put into place.
Bathke says he has been tracking the system during our recent hot spells and added that only one recent fire in our area could have been prevented if a burn ban had been in place.
He added that a burn ban restricts open burning and fireworks. Campgrounds can still have campfires, and homeowners can still have charcoal grills and campfires in their backyards.
Burn bans are in effect in Miner, Aurora, McCook, Jerauld, and Hanson counties. The last time a burn ban was enacted in Davison County was in 2017. Information on burn bans can be found at the Davison County Emergency Management website.
