MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Davison and Hanson county commissions have approved creating an ambulance district to provide better coverage across 900+ square miles around Mitchell. The plan involves a tax increase for landowners to fund more paramedics for Mitchell Fire and EMS, that will cover rural areas and small towns. Voters will decide on April 1st, and if approved, the district would start by January 2026. The move comes as Mitchell’s EMS is stretched thin with only six personnel per shift, so the plan would add six more paramedics. Public meetings are being held to explain the plan and address concerns.
