PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELL NOW) The 2024 legislative session is now two thirds done with the completion of week six.

House Concurrent Resolution 6008 is a resolution that opposes placing the right to an abortion in the South Dakota Constitution. An initiated measure is likely to be on the ballot in November of 2024 that would guarantee the right to an abortion and this resolution shows the legislature’s opposition to it. I voted in favor, it passed, 29-3.

House Bill 1161 prohibits the state and its subdivisions from accepting a central bank digital currency as a form of payment. The bill also requires anyone who accepts a central bank digital currency to accept another form of payment.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 603 is a resolution to oppose the adoption and development of a central bank digital currency. SCR 603 lists the various problems that would occur if a central bank digital currency were to be implemented and urges Congress to prohibit it.

HB 1161 and SCR 603 reaffirms the legislature’s continuing opposition to a central bank digital currency. I voted in favor of HB 1161; it passed, 32-1.
