Draft plans for a new Mitchell High School will be presented to the Mitchell School Board at its June 13th meeting. Mitchell Schools Superintendent Dr. Joe Graves gave a brief update on plans for the school at yesterday’s Mitchell School Board meeting. Graves told the board that the district has been saving money for the new school for many years. Funding for the building is expected to come from $24.5 million in capital outlay bonds, $10 million in capital outlay reserves, and $6.4 million in federal COVID-19 dollars, totaling $40.9 million. Graves told the board that several alternative plans will also be presented with some features to the school possibly being added at a later date. The high school project could be bid out as early as December.
For a second meeting, the board reviewed the K-12 budget for next year. The budget is expected to be approved at the June 27th Mitchell School Board meeting. The general fund budget would be approved at $21.6 million, capital outlay at $4.8 million, special education at $5.2 million, food service at $2.2 million, and MCTEA at $472,000.
