MITCHELL S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) There is disaster training taking place at the Davison County Fairgrounds involving personnel from the State Emergency Management and emergency personnel from Aurora, Davison, Hutchingson and Miner counties. Jeff Bathke, Davison County Emergency Management Director, says this is part of the annual training for those designated to deal with all types of emergency situations.
It’s called the IMAC Team. This year’s scenario is a hypothetical tornado strike in the southwest of Mitchell that takes out the Middle School, a water tower, the highway department facility, the Mitchell city bus barn and maintenance department, the hockey rink, the Davison County Search and Rescue along with apartments and citizen casualties.
Bathke says this scenario assumes that school is out for the year. He says future planning will involve what to do should a tornado strike during the school year while children are in school buildings and vulnerable.
