MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Twenty-five counties in South Dakota have been declared as disaster areas due to the June flooding. Four counties – Davison, Lincoln, Turner and Union – have qualified for individual assistance. A FEMA Mobile Disaster Recovery Center has been opened at the Davison County Fairgrounds with hours from 8am to 7pm. Interested citizens should bring ID as well as paperwork (utility bills, property tax receipts etc.) that prove their place of residence as well as any documentation of damage (pictures, receipts for repairs, estimates of losses etc.) to the center. Those who just have questions are welcome as well.
To date, in round figures, 843 claimants have received $4.9 million in individual disaster assistance. In Davison County 232 applicants have received $817, 668 in compensation. Lincoln County has seen 281 residents get $880, 524 in relief. Turner County reports 67 people receiving $213,740. Union County, which saw some of the worst damage, had 263 applicants thus far getting $2,983,041 in disaster compensation.
