A fire near Pickstown on Saturday afternoon knocked out power for some consumers in the area. The fire was reported near the Fort Randall Dam on the Missouri River. The power outages started at around 2:45 p.m. after a high voltage transmission line owned by the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) that feeds East River Electric Power Cooperative substations in the area was de-energized. Eleven substations experienced outages ranging from momentary to over two and a half hours. East River Electric’s White Swan substation located near the fire in Pickstown was out for just over two and a half hours. Crews patrolled the line during the fire and the line was energized after it was determined that it was safe to do so.
