Mitchell and Mount Vernon firefighters were on the scene of a grass fire on Saturday afternoon. Officials received a call at around 2:45 PM that a field had caught on fire in the 2400 block of West 23rd Street, or Cemetery Road. A vacant building caught on fire and was destroyed. The fire was put out in about 90 minutes. No one was injured in the blaze, and no homes in the area were affected. The cause of the fire is not known. A red flag warning takes effect at noon Sunday for several area counties. Warmer temperatures, windy conditions, and low humidity will lead to very high fire danger on Sunday.
