RAPID CITY, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Governor Larry Rhoden has announced that fireworks will return to Mount Rushmore for the United States’ 250th birthday in 2026. Rhoden and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum celebrated the decision, calling it a historic event that will get worldwide attention. According to a press release, 2020 was the last time there were fireworks at Mount Rushmore. Rhoden has invited President Trump to the celebration and says he’s excited to work with the White House Task Force on Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday.
