FREMONT, Neb — Midland (2-2, 2-1 GPAC) defeated Dakota Wesleyan (1-2, 1-1 GPAC) 27-14 on Saturday. DWU scored the first touchdown of the game with 6:27 left in the 1st quarter on a 58-yard connection from Kiel Nelson to Jamin Arend for 58 yards to give the Tigers 7-3 lead.
Levi Markey gave Midland the lead back with 1:37 left in the first quarter on a 1-yard score. Markey finished with two touchdowns and 70 yards in the game.
Midland led at halftime 17-14.
The contest turned around in the third quarter off back-to-back turnovers on interceptions by Nelson on the first two DWU drives of the second half.
Markey’s second touchdown from 12 yards out put Midland ahead 24-14. A 29-yard field goal by Jared Quinonez put the score at 27-14.
DWU returns to Joe Quintal Field on Saturday, Sept. 25, for the Homecoming game against Hastings College at 1 p.m. Pregame on KMIT 105.9 FM will begin at 12:40 p.m.
