FORT THOMPSON, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A Fort Thompson woman will serve three months in federal prison for embezzling more than $44,000 from the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. Mariah Sazue was sentenced July 21 by a U.S. District Judge. She will also have to pay full restitution and serve two years of supervised release. Prosecutors say Sazue, the tribe’s former HR director, submitted falsified timesheets with inflated overtime starting in late 2022. She was fired in May 2024 and later pleaded guilty. The FBI investigated the case.
