PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A former South Dakota Department of Social Services employee has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for stealing nearly $1.8 million in state and federal funds. Attorney General Marty Jackley says Lonna Carroll was convicted by a jury in April on two felony counts of aggravated grand theft. The stolen funds came from the department of Child Protection Services. Carroll will have to repay the full $1.78 million and cover court costs. Jackley says the case shows that public trust is not for sale, and his office will continue to pursue those who exploit government positions for personal gain.
