Acting United States Attorney Dennis Holmes announced that a Fort Thompson man convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter was
sentenced on August 16, 2021, by Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange, U.S. District Court.
Patrick Dion, age 55, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release, a special assessment to the Federal
Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100, and restitution in the amount of $7,126.48. Dion was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 8, 2021. He pled
guilty on May 10, 2021.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred on January 14, 2021, in Fort Thompson. Dion was driving his vehicle while intoxicated and
failed to yield for a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk. The victim died instantly. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Crow Creek Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley prosecuted the case.
Dion was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
