What a great night of action it was last night in the South Dakota Amateur Baseball League. Pitching took center stage in Parkston last night as the Platte Killer Tomatoes Travis Gant showed why he is one of the top pitchers in the Sunshine League as he painted corners and changed speeds all night in a pitcher’s dual vs the Parkston Devil Rays as the Platte Killer Tomatoes beat the Parkston Devil Rays at the pond in Parkston by the final of 2 to1. Platte’s Travis Gant moved to 3 and 0 on the season going seven innings strong and only allowing that one run on four hits while striking out seven. The Parkston Devil Rays Jake Helleloid who was also dazzling in the loss only allowed two runs on four hits while striking out 11.

The Alexandria Angels are now 10-2 on the season winning at home last night in Alexandria beating the visiting Mount Vernon Mustangs by the final of 5 to 1. Riley Mc Sherry has been the find of the season for the Alexandria Angels as he is now 5 and 0 to start the season. The Angels Mc Sherry in another strong pitching performance went the distance stacking up a 154-pitch count going all nine innings and only allowed the one run and five hits. The Angels offense came from Jerrod Zens, Cole Wenande and Jacob Jiles who all had the game winning RBI’s.

The Dimock Emery Raptors have now won three games in a row thanks to another strong pitching performance thanks to the Raptors starting pitcher the ageless one Phil Johnson who is now 4-1 on the season after going seven innings and only allowing the three runs on six hits while fanning six. The Dimock Emery Raptors run support came from Derek Graesser who went 2 for five from the plate with an RBI.

The Winner Colome Pheasants winning streak has now reached 9 games in row thanks to back-to-back wins vs the two Parkston amateur baseball teams as they beat the Parkston Devils Rays last night at home in Winner by the final of 12 to 6. The Winner Colome Pheasants seem to find offense every night from a different player as last night the Pheasants hero was JJ Farner who went five for five from the plate with a double and a RBI.  The Winner Colome Pheasants are now 13-1 on the season.

Games in the Pony Hills League last night it was the Wessington Spring Owls over the visiting Winner Demons by the final of 3 to1 as Parker DeJean struck out 15 batters in a complete-game performance as Wessington Springs picked up a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win on Thursday night. Parker DeJean allowed four hits, five walks and zero earned runs on 171 pitches. Caleb Jost, Coy Fastnacht, Drew Olinger, Clay Olinger, Blake Larson and Dalton Mogck each had hits for the Owls. For the Winner Demons, Pierce Nelson, Casey Heenan, Derek Waltner and Bryce Bohnet each had hits. Ethan Bartels took the loss, allowing six hits, three walks, zero earned runs and struck out 11 batters in eight innings.

The Burke Bombers were victorious last night over the Chamberlain Mallards by the final of 6 to 3 as Hunter Van Niewenhuyse threw three shutout innings while driving in two runs offensively as Burke defeated Chamberlain in Pony Hills League action Thursday.Van Niewenhuyse batted 3-for-4 with a double and homer, while allowing just three hits and a walk in three innings pitched, striking out seven batters. Christian Schweigert drove in two runs on a double, Rylan Peck tallied three hits, while Coy Determan, JJ Beck, and Tommy Determan each tallied hits in the win.

The Kimble White Lake Nationals remained in first place in the Pony Hills League winning by the final of 13 to 1 over the Plankinton Bankers who fall to 3 and 6 on the season. Hudson Heath and Wesley Kroupa each drove in one run on one hit, while Caden Lenz and Jaxon Christensen each tallied hits in the win. For Plankinton Bankers, Dawson Mehlhaff took the loss in 4.2 innings pitched, allowing eight hits, six walks, and 12 runs while striking out seven. Cain Tobin tallied the only hit of the game for Plankinton.

Four Corners took out the Colome Chas last night by the final of 10 to nothing. Sam Hand led the offense with three hits, a walk, and two RBIs, while River Iverson drove in three runs on two hits and a walk. Austin Hand batted 3-for-5 with a double, Justin Lester drove in two runs on two hits, while Andrew McCloud and Noah Hainy each drove in a run on one hit.

The 2024 DWU Football putt and shoot fundraiser is on Friday July 26th with a 10 a.m. Trap Shoot session at the Mitchell Gun Club. That will be followed by a 1:00 p.m. golf outing at Wild Oak Golf Course. The cost of the DWU Football shoot and putt fundraiser is $250 for one team which consists of 2 people. $100 for golf only with one participant or $400 for two teams. The DWU Football Trap Shoot and putt fundraiser is on July 26th with an 10 a.m. Trap Shoot and 1:00p.m. Golfing outing.

Congratulations to the 2024 Hall of Fame Class of the South Dakota Amateur Baseball League that includes Mark Payne and Michael Clapp, Devin Alfson, Matt Stevenson, and Brent Osborn have been selected for induction into the SDABA Hall of Fame. Gene Bierle is set to be inducted into the South Dakota Umpires Association Hall of Fame along with honorary inductee Joe Van Goor of Yankton. Congratulations!
