Even though the season is coming to an end in South Dakota amateur baseball the key is to get hot at the right time. And if that’s the case the Mount Vernon Mustangs are heating up at the right time. The Mustangs Cameron Deinert drove in six runs as Mount Vernon defeated Alexandria in Sunshine League action Thursday. Cameron Deinert batted 3-for-3 with a walk and two homers driving in six runs for the Mustangs. Walker Hultgren collected two RBIs on one hit, Eric Giblin drove in a run on a solo homer, Chase Hetland and Deric Denning each tallied two hits. Bradley Dean tallied a double in the win as well.

Deric Denning took the victory on the mound, allowing seven runs on eight hits and four walks, striking out eight batters in nine innings pitched with 151 pitches thrown. For Alexandria, Jacob Giles took the loss in six innings, issuing eight runs on six hits and five walks, striking out three. Cole Wenande drove in two runs on a homer, Jordan Gau collected three hits, including a double and a solo home run, Peyton Smith tallied two RBIs on one hit, while Michael Schoettmer and Landon Ruesink each drove in a run for Alexandria in the loss.

The 2024 DWU Football putt and shoot fundraiser is on Friday July 26th with a 10 a.m. Trap Shoot session at the Mitchell Gun Club. That will be followed by a 1:00 p.m. golf outing at Wild Oak Golf Course. The cost of the DWU Football shoot and putt fundraiser is $250 for one team =2 people. $100 for golf only with one participant or $400 for two teams. The DWU Women’s Volleyball High School Camps are on Tuesday July 23RD and July 24th are for young girls volleyball players who will learn basic to advanced technique that feature progressive drills that will improve an individual’s game in attacking so they will be more skilled on their arm swing that also includes footwork and timing. The Setter portion focuses on hand position, follow through, and movement so they will be more skilled at the high school level. The camp instructors are the DWU Head Volleyball Coach Linsay Wilber and her coaches and players. The girls’ high school volleyball camps are designed for instruction and coaching in and will be given in small groups to help campers master the skills that are covered. The DWU girls’ high school volleyball camps are for girls entering the 8th grade through 12th grade. Check in time is at 9 a.m. Tuesday’s schedule is 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Session two is 12:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. The DWU girls’ high school volleyball camps are $65 per camper and start on Tuesday July 23 that is the advanced hitter and setter camp and the Wednesday July 24th camp is the defensive and passing camp. The Mitchell 16u Teener baseball team is now 26-8 on the season. The Mitchell 16u Teener baseball team was on the road yesterday vs the Post 15u Black in a doubleheader and it didn’t take long for the Mitchell 16u Teener baseball team offense to get rolling in the first game of the doubleheader after a couple big innings as the won game one’s doubleheader by the score of 14 to nothing. The Mitchell 16u Teener baseball team 2nd game was similar to the first game as the offense exploded in game two again as they won game two by the final of 12 to nothing. The Mitchell 16u Teener baseball team scored 296runs in the two games. The Mitchell 16u Teener baseball team heads to battle the Aberdeen Smittys 16u baseball team on the road in another doubleheader starting Sunday at 2 pm.
