The Mitchell White 13u Teener baseball team is now 27-12-1 on the season after another very impressive showing yesterday in the Class A 13u state baseball tournament. Mitchell’s Oliver Rami got the scoring started in the bottom of the second which would jump start the Teeners offense leading to 5 runs. The Teeners bats would stay red hot as they scored four more runs in the bottom of the 4th then another four runs in the bottom of the fifth to go on and win the game by the final of 12 to 4. Pitching was key again for the Teeners as Madden Graves picked up the win going 2 innings and only allowing 2 runs on three hits while striking out 2. The Mitchell White 13u Teener baseball team is now 27-12-1 on the season.

The Mitchell Black 14u Teeners are now 17 and 16 on the season after a head to battle in Watertown in the Class A 14u state baseball tournament. Mitchell’s Brady Hoesing got the scoring started in the top of the third which would jump start the 14u baseball team yesterday winning by the final of 17 to 7. The Mitchell Black 14u Teeners are now 1-2 vs the Aberdeen Smittys this season. The Mitchell Black 14u Teeners scored one run in the top of the first then another 11 runs in the top of the third to grab a 12 to 0 advantage over Aberdeen Smittys. Mitchells Odin Krause drove in the insurance runs needed to put the game on ice for The Mitchell Black 14u Teeners.

The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team was on the road yesterday competing in the Class A 16u state baseball tournament in Rapid City. Mitchell’s Jacob Ebert got the scoring started in the top of the third which would jump start the 16u baseball team The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team was facing a familiar foe in the Brookings Bullets 16u baseball team. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team won big in those games vs the Brookings Bullets 16u baseball team earlier in the year in a doubleheader 11 to 1 and 15 to 0.

The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team scored early and often scoring 11 runs in the 3rd inning thanks to Jacob Eberts three RBI Day and he scored two runs. He also finished the game going 3 for 4 at the plate. Mitchell’s Jaxon Hartman then followed suit with 1 RBI going 1 for 3 at the plate as well scoring a run. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team would close out the Brookings Bullets 16u baseball team winning by the final of 18 to 1. Jaxon Hartman picked up the win for the Mitchell 16u teener baseball team going 4 innings allowing one run on three hits while fanning 5

. Chamberlain secured a spot in the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Thursday beating the Bankers 11 to 6. Chamberlain’s Mike Schwartz finished with three hits, while Dakota Munger had two hits and drove in four runs. Braydon Kreofsky and Kyle Forester had two hits and drove in two runs apiece.

Evan Stiener and Matt Hilson each drove in runs. Stiener earned the win, striking out nine batters, allowing eight hits, five earned runs and four walks in nine innings. For Plankinton, Hunter Pranger had three hits and drove in two runs. Teegan Schlimgen had two hits and drove in a run.

 Alexandria advances to the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Thursday after beating the Raptors by the final of 9 to 1. Pierce Smith powered the Angels with three hits and four RBI. Tyson Gau and Jacob Giles had three hits apiece, while Giles drove in a run. Michael Schoettmer added two hits. Jerrod Zens knocked in two runs, while Cole Wenande, Jordan Gau, Peyton Smith and Tucker Kingsbury added hits.

Ethan Davis struck out nine batters, allowed seven hits, one earned run and walked two batters on 130 pitches. For Dimock-Emery, Peyton Nash, Jonah Schmidt and Josh Engquist had two hits apiece. Sam Pischke drove in the lone Dimock-Emery run. Phil Johnson took the loss, allowing nine hits, four earned runs and struck out one batter in 2.1 innings.

The Parkston Mudcats kept their season alive in the District 5B amateur baseball tournament on Thursday beating the Devil Rays by the final of 8 to 4. Parkston will play Dimock-Emery in an elimination game at 6 p.m. Friday. Brady Nolz struck out 13 batters, allowed six hits, three earned runs and one walk on 125 pitches in the complete-game performance.

Jeff Harris powered the Mudcats with two hits and four RBI. Ryan McGinnis drove in two runs, while Matt Malloy and Dylan Mogck each drove in runs. For the Devil Rays, Dylan Soulek hammered a three-run homer and Landon Sudbeck had two hits. Ty Neugebauer took the loss, allowing seven hits, six earned runs, seven walks and struck out six batters in six innings.

Friday night is our KOOL 98.3 FM District 5B Amateur Baseball games as we will be in Parkston at the Pond for a winner’s bracket doubleheader.  The first game at 6 pm features the last chance state tournament game followed by the #3 Platte Killer Tomatoes vs the #1 Winner Colome Pheasants at 8 pm in the 5B district tournament championship game. The Mitchell High School Wrestling Camp is on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday August 5th, 6th and 7th. The Mitchell Youth Wrestling Camp will offer wrestling instructions to students in grades Kindergarten-6th grade. Campers can expect to participate in fundamental wrestling drills, learn wrestling techniques, and play wrestling specific games. The Mitchell High School Wrestling Camp is for both boys and girls and the cost is $54 and the start times are the same on all days. Session 1 is for k-2nd grades and starts at 3:00pm and ends at 4:45pm. Session 2 is for 3rd-6th starts at 5:00pm and ends at 6:45pm. Mitchell High School Wrestling Camp is at MHS Wrestling Room or Main Gym Campers should bring a T-shirt, shorts, a water bottle, and wrestling shoes (campers can participate in socks also) InstructorsJagger Tyler, Lane Miller, and Baker Haar. The Dakota Wesleyan University athletic department has been named a Gold Five-Star Champions of Character Institution by the NAIA with a perfect score of 100 for the fourth straight year.

Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earn points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the academic year.

The Champions of Character scorecard measures growth in character training, academic focus, character recognition, character promotion, and conduct in competition. All these measures are the core values of the NAIA – integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. There were 20 conferences that received the 2023-234 Champions of Character Five-Star Conferences honors, including the Great Plains Athletic Conference, which DWU is a member of.

2023-24 Five-Star Conference Award Criteria

  • Established Champions of Character Conference Committee
  • Conference has a conduct in competition oversight committee composed of a minimum of three members
  • At least 60% of members institutions must receive the NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star Institution Award

Schools use a scorecard to measure the pursuit of character-driven athletics. If a school scores a minimum of 60 points out of 100, it is named a Five-Star Institution. There are distinction levels which are based on how many points a school earns which can qualify a school as bronze, silver, or gold status. With a perfect score of 100, DWU earned gold status.
