The Mitchell Kernels boys’ varsity golf team returns to the links today hosting their first home Invite at Lakeview Golf Course starting at 10 a.m. after a very dazzling performance in Yankton as on Tuesday they were in a battle for the Marchand Cup at Yankton vs the Yankton Bucks at Yankton’s Fox Run Golf Course. The format in place is a Ryder Cup scoring point system that rewards the first team to reach 24 points is the Cup and Tournament winner. The Yankton Bucks won the six team four-ball competition by the score of 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 as able to get 2 1/2 points with wins for the Mitchell Kernels was the team of Sam Titze and Dawson Adams and Tyler Christensen and Gavin Polries.
The Mitchell boys’ varsity golf team dominated the six team two-man teams scramble competition winning 5 1/2 to 0.5 thanks to the teams of Carter Mc Cormick and Marshall Widstrom as each winning team received one point. They were followed by teammates Brady Reiners and Jordan Meyerink, Sam Titze and Dawson Adams, Tyler Christensen and Gavin Polries, and Matthew Mausycksi and Cannon Moller who won their matches.
The Mitchell boys’ varsity golf team dominated the 12-man singles winning 9 1/2 to 2 1/2 to win the Tournament and the Marchand Cup winning buy the final of 17 1/2 to 6 1/2 to retain the Cup. The Mitchell Kernels girls’ varsity tennis team returns to the court today hosting Pierre and Spearfish in a home dual at Hitchcock Park after a great showing taking 2nd place in the Rapid City Invite over the weekend. They were in action on Friday as the Mitchell Kernels girl’s tennis team is on a roll to start the 2024 season.
They won easily in a road dual in on Friday in Rapid City beating Rapid City Christian by the final of 9 to 0. Starting in-flight singles # 1 Megan Mastel won her first match 10 to 7 then in-flight singles #2 Carson Weich was a big winner 10 to 7. The Kernels girls Katie Morgan then followed suit winning by the final of 10 to 5 in her flight # 3 and Elly Clement won her flight # 4 10 to 7 and winning flight singles # 5 was Matteah Graves winning by the final of 10 to nothing and Mia Larson won her flight # six 10 to 1.The Mitchell Kernels girls’ varsity tennis team returns to the court today hosting Pierre and Spearfish in a home dual at Hitchcock Park starting at 10 a.m.
DWU Tigers Volleyball team opened Wednesday in Forest City Iowa vs their GPAC rival in the Waldorff Warriors volleyball team. It was all Lady Tigers on Wednesday taking the first match in three sets vs Waldorff dominating the first set 25-21, then winning 2 more straight sets by the final of 25-13, 25-8 to close out the sets and win the match. The Tigers have now won one match in a row and are now 5-5 on the season.
The DWU Tigers Volleyball team continued their hot play last Saturday dominating Mayville State and winning the match three sets to one. The set wins were 28-26, 25-12, they dropped the 3rd set 25-21 but rallied to take the fourth set and the match winning 25-15. The 2nd match on Saturday was won by Benedictine as they won the match 3 sets to one. The DWU Tigers Volleyball team had a great showing in the Siouxland Invite in Sioux City Iowa on Friday and Saturday going 3 and 1 for the tournament.
