Yesterday afternoon, it was No. 5 seed Mount Vernon/Plankinton against No. 4 seed Dakota Valley in the opening round of the Class A state volleyball tournament. It was a hard-fought battle between the two teams, but Dakota Valley ended up defeating Mount Vernon/Plankinton, 3-1. Mount Vernon/Plankinton is pushed to the loser’s bracket and will face No. 1 seed Miller at 11am today. It will again be at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Dakota Wesleyan

Next for Tiger hoops there will be games in two different locations on Saturday. For the No. 11 ranked women’s basketball, they will continue with Great Plains Athletic Conference play when they travel to Omaha, NE to face the College of Saint Mary. The game will be played in the Lied Fitness Center beginning at 3pm. The men’s basketball team will travel the other direction and make their way to Valley City, ND for a rematch with the Valley City State Vikings. The game will take place in the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse at 2pm.

Today the women’s wrestling team gets back to the mats. They’re competing in the Missouri Valley Open. It is a two-day event beginning at Noon today and 9am tomorrow.

NBA

Four NBA games were played last night. The Detroit Pistons played the Charlotte Hornets, and it went into overtime. Though the Hornets were able to get past the Pistons, 123-121. Then your Minnesota Timberwolves took on the Toronto Raptors and they were in a close game as well. They were unable to get past the Raptors though and fall, 110-105. The Utah Jazz battled the San Antonio Spurs, and it was yet another single digit margin. The Spurs got past the Jazz by a score of 126-118. Lastly, the Orlando Magic faced the Los Angeles Lakers, and it was a back-and-forth game. The Jazz were able to win it, 119-118.

NFL

It was the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Cleveland Browns last night at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, OH. It was a snow-filled game, but the two teams managed it get it done. Cleveland ends up within in the win, 24-19.
