Playoffs continue tonight for some area high school football teams in pursuit of a State Championship! In Class 9AA, the No. 1 seed Parkston Trojans will take on Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy at Parkston high school beginning at 7pm.
The playoffs continued for many area volleyball teams last night. In Class A – Region 5, it was No. 1 seed Mount Vernon/Plankinton against Bon Homme. Mount Vernon/Plankinton came away with the win in straight sets. Then No. 2 seed Hanson faced No. 3 seed Wagner. Hanson was able to come out on top, winning it 3-1. In Class A – Region 6, No. 1 seed Miller hosted No. 5 seed Platte-Geddes. Platte-Geddes lost in straight sets to Miller. For Class B – Region 3, No. 2 seed Colman-Egan faced No. 3 seed Bridgewater-Emery at McCook Central School District. Bridgewater-Emery fell in straight sets to Colman-Egan. In Class B – Region 4, No. 1 seed Gayville-Volin hosted No. 5 seed Tripp-Delmont/Armour. Tripp-Delmont/Armour was defeated by Gayville-Volin, 3-1. Along with No. 2 seed Parkston hosting No. 6 seed Freeman. Parkston took the victory over Freeman in straight sets. Lastly, in Class B – Region 5, No. 1 seed Burke faced No. 5 seed Avon. Avon lost to Burke in straight sets. As well as No. 2 seed Gregory against No. 3 seed Corsica-Stickney. Corsica-Stickney was taken down by Gregory in straight sets. All of the winning teams in each Region have now qualified for the SoDak 16.
Mitchell Kernels
Last night the Kernels traveled to Sioux Falls to take on O’Gorman for their final game of the season. A tough way to end the year for the Kernels after struggling throughout the year. Mitchell fell to O’Gorman in straight sets. They ended the season with a 3-20 overall record.
Dakota Wesleyan
More basketball action is on the way for your Tigers. The Tiger men’s basketball team will remain home for their next game. Tomorrow they will face Valley City State at the Worlds Only Corn Palace. They will aim to start 4-0 for the first time since the 2019-2020 season in which they began 5-0 that year. The game against the Vikings will tipoff at 5pm and our pregame will be at 4:45pm.
It’s season opener time tomorrow for both the men’s and women’s wrestling teams for DWU! In two different locations to begin the season. The women’s team will be on the road to compete in the Warrior Tournament beginning at 9am. The men will remain here in Mitchell to host the DWU Open at 9am at the Worlds Only Corn Palace.
Tomorrow the Tigers will return to action for the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason volleyball tournament. Your No. 7 seed Tigers will face No. 2 seed Concordia in the quarterfinal round to open the tournament. The game will begin at 5pm in Concordia.
Tiger football will have their final home game tomorrow afternoon at Joe Quintal Field. They will take on the Briar Cliff Chargers as they look for a second win in a row and end their play at home on a high note. The game will begin at 1pm and our pregame will be at 12:35pm.
NBA
Three games in the NBA took place last night. It was the Utaz Jazz on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks got back in the win column with a 123-100 win. Then the Portland Trail Blazers faced the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs took the win, 118-105. Finally, your Minnesota Timberwolves were in action as well, taking on the Chicago Bulls. It was the Timberwolves who emerged victorious, winning it 135-119.
NFL
Last night was Thursday Night Football as the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals duked it out. It was a great back-and-forth battle all night long that came down to the wire. It ended with the Ravens coming out on top, 35-34. Then on Sunday, it is a 12-game slate with your Minnesota Vikings playing in the Noon slot on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, FL.
