Mitchell Basketball

The Kernel basketball teams both took on Sioux Falls Washington last night. The (RV) Kernel girls had arguably their toughest shooting night of the year when they faced the Warriors. Mitchell was held to 25% from the field and shot just 3-for-27 (11.1%) in their 51-41 loss to Sioux Falls Washington. The girls fall to 11-6 overall and are now on a three-game losing streak. For the boys, their start was decent, but they allowed a 21-point second quarter from the Warriors that tied the game at the half. It was a game that went down to the wire and in the final three minutes of the game, seven of the ten coaches timeouts were called a true coaching dual and chess match style game. It came down to final possessions, and it was a pair of key steals from Kendan Skinner and Lincoln Bottum that helped seal a 52-49 win. Colton Smith and Owen Shelske led the team with 15 points each and Schelske added 12 rebounds, all off the bench for the young sophomore. The boys improved to 8-8 overall after the win and have posted back-to-back wins for the first time since Jan. 6 & 9 when they beat Harrisburg and Yankton at home.
