HURON, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The Game Fish and Parks Commission will meet in Huron on Thursday October 3, 2024, at 2pm at the Huron Event Center. The focus of the meeting will be the proposed fee increases for various hunting and fishing licenses as well as rate hikes for state parks, campgrounds and recreational areas.
The last time license fees for hunting, fishing and trapping were raised was back in 2014 and for campgrounds, state parks and recreational areas was 2019. Some sportsmen’s groups around the state have supported the proposed increase citing the need to keep up with inflation and pointing to the relative bargain that South Dakota fees are, especially for out-of-staters, compared to other places in the country.
The hearing is open for the public to attend, observe and to testify.
