PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Governor Larry Rhoden is proposing to use state funds to help expand the Sioux Falls and Rapid City airports. According to South Dakota Public Broadcasting, Rhoden plans to introduce legislation offering 0% interest loans of up to $15 million per airport, shifting unused dollars from the state’s housing infrastructure fund into South Dakota’s “Revolving Economic Development & Initiative” or REDI fund. He says the move is a “win-win,” allowing the money to be repaid for future development projects. But some lawmakers, including House Speaker Jon Hansen, criticize the plan, arguing the funds should instead go toward property tax relief for South Dakota families.
