Sioux Falls, SD (Mitchell Now) – Governor Larry Rhoden has recognized September 19, 2026, as POW/MIA Recognition Day in South Dakota, honoring America’s former prisoners of war and remembering those who remain missing in action.

South Dakota continues to honor 349 service members who remain unaccounted for: six from the Vietnam War, 33 from the Korean War, and 308 from World War II.

South Dakotans are encouraged to observe POW/MIA Recognition Day by attending local ceremonies and displaying the POW/MIA flag. A list of events taking place across the state is available at https://vetaffairs.sd.gov/.
