MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The South Dakota Highway Patrol is introducing new technology to cut down on dangerous high-speed chases. The system, called StarChase, launches a small GPS tracker onto a fleeing vehicle, allowing troopers to monitor it in real time without maintaining a risky pursuit. Officials say this approach lets them back off during the chase and make arrests later under safer conditions. StarChase is already in use in several patrol cars statewide.
