Brookings, SD (MITCHELLNOW) – Hallie Carlson of Mitchell will compete in the 78th Annual Miss South Dakota Scholarship Competition May 29th through May 30th at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center in Brookings, SD. Carlson is a student at Mitchell High School and holds the title of Miss Jacks’ Teen. Carlson is one of seven delegates vying for the crown and the opportunity to advance to the Miss America’s Teen competition in early 2026.
The theme of this year’s program is Imagine the Possibilities with delegates judged on interviews, talent, and red carpet presence. As part of the competition, each candidate champions a social impact project. Carlson’s initiative Mentoring Makes a Difference focuses on the power of mentorship and the lifelong impact a caring model can have on a child. Mentors not only help kids succeed but also inspire confidence and resilience.
The Miss South Dakota’s Teen Competition, a preliminary to Miss America’s Teen is part of the Miss South Dakota program. The organization is recognized as the nation’s leading achievement program and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance to young women. Throughout its 78-year history, the Miss South Dakota organization has impacted 18,000 young women and awarded more than $52,000 in scholarships during last year’s event. The Miss South Dakota Scholarship Program is a means for statewide awareness of the Miss America and Miss America’s Teen programs. The mission is to uphold the four points of the crown: Service, Scholarship, Success, and Style.
Participation in this program provides young women with the opportunity to promote a platform of community service and share their talents, intelligence, and positive values while serving as role models in their communities. The program is run entirely by volunteers and is supported by private donations which help the delegates in their pursuit of academic excellence, service, and lifelong success.
