The Hanson School District is busy working on a brand new track and football field for the Beavers.

“Man, I tell you we are so proud of it and how it’s coming together,” Hanson superintendent Jim Bridge said.

The plan was initially for a new track, but Bridge explained that when reconfiguring the track, the crown of the football field would become offset.

So the decision was made to scrap the old field turf and forgo trying to re-crown the field and instead opt for a brand n ew artificial surface field. After weighing the costs of both, Bridge said the long term cost of artificial turf could actually be lower because of the removal of things like maintenance and watering costs.

In addition, all new lighting being installed, as well as the space for a pole vault, which was previously not offered at the school.

The desired completion date of the new track and field is Aug. 15 – but the first home football game in Alexandria will not be until Sept. 9. In the spring of 2023, Hanson will host an invitational meet at the junior high and high school level, as well as playing host to district and regional track.
