MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The South Dakota Highway Patrol will be setting up sobriety checkpoints in 16 counties throughout October. According to a press release, counties scheduled to see checkpoints include Brule, Davison, Minnehaha, Pennington, and Yankton. The patrol says the checkpoints are meant to remind drivers not to get behind the wheel after drinking. The operations are carried out with local law enforcement and funded through the Office of Highway Safety. Officials urge motorists to plan ahead by designating a sober driver or using public or commercial transportation to ensure everyone gets home safely.
