HURON, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) On Tuesday May 27th the Huron post office was dedicated to 1st Lieutenant Thomas Michael Martin, a Huron native who died in 2007 while on active duty in Iraq. On hand was US Senator Mike Rounds, who sponsored the legislation last November to officially dedicate the Huron post office. Lieutenant Martin’s father Ed Martin gave a vivid history of the downtown area around the Huron post office and his son’s path to the military. A plaque commemorating the US Post Office in Huron to First Lieutenant Thomas Michael Martin was placed in the lobby of the post office Tuesday.

On May 27th, the Huron community gathered for a heartfelt ceremony dedicating the Huron Post Office to First Lieutenant Thomas Michael Martin, a local hero who gave his life in service during the Iraq War.
