PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Democratic Senator Jamie Smith is throwing his name in the hat for mayor of Sioux Falls. Smith, who was previously a candidate for governor, kicked off his campaign over the weekend at the Washington Pavilion. With Mayor Paul TenHaken term-limited, voters will see a new face in 2026. State Republican Representative Greg Jamison, who’s also considering a run, says Smith would be a strong candidate and praised his dedication to the city. Jamison says if they both run, he expects a friendly, issues-focused campaign. The mayoral election is set to line up with the statewide primary next June, pending a final city council vote.
