Mitchell, SD (MITCHELLNOW) Governor Kristi Noem has ordered the flags at the State Capitol to be flown at half-mast on Monday April 22, 2024, in honor of Jim Burg. Burg was a Wessington Springs area farmer who represented Jerauld County in the South Dakota State House of Representatives from 1975-1984 and in the State Senate from 1985-1986. In 1986, Jim Burg was elected to the first of his three terms as a Public Utilities Commissioner. He was defeated for reelection to that office in 2004 by Dusty Johnson.
Funeral services were held for Jim Burg on Monday April 22, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wessington Springs.
