The 12th-seeded Mitchell Kernel girls basketball team fell to 4th-seeded Sioux Falls Jeferson 50-34 in the opening round of the Class AA state basketball tournament at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
Addie Siemsen led Mitchell with 13 points. Lauren Van Overschelde scored 10. Sawyer Stoebner scored 9 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out 4 assists, had 4 steals, and a block.
Cierra Watkins scored 20 points for Jefferson and grabbed 9 rebounds. Jaidyn Dunn scored 4 for the Cavaliers.
The 9-13 Kernels play 8th-seeded Watertown in the first round of the consolation bracket at noon on Friday.
