Mitchell Kernels girls basketball won a fourth straight game last night over Harrisburg 46-42 to pull its record to 5-6. This was the first win over Harrisburg ever for Kernels girls coach Cole Knippling and first for the Mitchell girls program since 2013.

Coach Knippling credited his senior post Kaitlin Christensen – who finished with six points and seven rebounds – for having an outstanding game guarding Harrisburg post Emily Boyer. Boyer finished with 17 points

“The thing that doesn’t even make it into the stat sheet was how (Christensen) defended the middle of the lane on the defensive end,” Knippling said. “She was really, really good on the defensive end of the floor … The Boyer girl had 17 points, but she had to work her butt off to get them.”

Sawyer Stoebner led the Kernels with 26 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Sarah Sebert added 11 points. The Kernels next face Sioux Falls Lincoln on Friday on the road.
