YANKTON — After a dismal first half that saw the Mitchell Kernels boys basketball team score just 16 points — the Kernels went on to win 51-44 in regulation after outscoring Yankton 35-13 in the second half. Dylan Soulek scored 12 points and Steele Morgan had 11 points and seven rebounds.

On the girls side, Mitchell led for most of the night and pulled away in the second half against the Gazelles, winning 45-27. Addie Siemson and Sawyer Stoebner both scored 14 points for Mitchell.

The Kernels are back in action on Jan. 10 at the Corn Palace against rival Huron. Girls will play at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
