Governor Kristi Noem’s confirmation hearing to head the Department of Homeland Security is now on the calendar. It’s set for January 15th on Capitol Hill. The hearing comes a day after Noem is scheduled to deliver the State of the State address in Pierre. If she’s confirmed as Homeland Security Secretary, Noem will have to step down from her role as South Dakota’s governor since she can’t hold both positions. That would then pave the way for current Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden (Road-in) to take over as the state’s leader.
