PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A South Dakota Senate committee endorsed a bill on Tuesday to get tough on porn sites. Lawmakers spent the summer studying the issue of holding websites responsible for providing age verification in order to protect minors from the harm caused by viewing pornography. Forensic Examiner Holly Strand of the Pennington County Sheriff’s office deals with that issue as part of her work. VERBATIM: It used to be years ago that when we went into schools, that only high school is where we heard the word porn. Then it became middle school, and about five years ago we had a kindergartner ask us how to handle pornography. And it was all downhill from there. She says the bill is needed. Committee members voted unanimously to endorse a bill that’s already passed the State House. It now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
