PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) South Dakota lawmakers are exploring solutions to better support residents with intellectual disabilities. A special summer study committee convened for the first time on Wednesday, asking organizations to submit their top recommendations within a week. Co-Chair Senator Chris Karr of Sioux Falls noted that the key challenge is finding ways to address needs while working with limited resources. Dan Cross, executive director of a group representing service providers, emphasized that funding is already stretched thin for community support programs such as Life Scape and Dakota Abilities, which deliver care across the state.
