PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Senator Mike Rounds credits Attorney General Marty Jackley for what could be a breakthrough in solving the Tribal Law Enforcement shortage. The Attorney General arranged to have tribal officers trained alongside other officers from across the state last year. Currently, tribal officers have to spend six months in New Mexico to be trained, which is a deal-breaker for many candidates. Senator Rounds says as the former governor of North Dakota, Interior Secretary Doug Borglum understands the problem and is working to solve it. (:13) Having the training in this area allows tribal officers to spend time with their families on weekends, rather than being isolated in New Mexico.
