The effects of the mask mandate in the Mitchell School District were revealed at yesterday’s Mitchell School Board meeting, which was held at Mitchell High School. Mitchell Schools Superintendent Joe Graves says since August 31st, 37 students have opted to open enroll in another school district or home school. He says another 37 students have decided to use virtual enrollment at home. Graves says those numbers will impact next year’s budget.
During the hourlong public commentary portion of last night’s meeting, several spoke out once again against the reinstated mask mandate. The board was accused of endangering children with the mandate and not looking objectively at data regarding the masks and their effectiveness or lack thereof. A few people also suggested pressing criminal charges against board members. The mask mandate is currently set to be reviewed by the board at the beginning of November.
