The Project Prison Reset task force backs construction near Mitchell or Worthing. But both mayors now oppose those plans. Worthing Mayor Crystal Jacobson warns her town can’t handle the financial strain or infrastructure demands. Mitchell Mayor Jordan Hanson says residents don’t support it, and he’s not going against their wishes. He adds the state needs to do a better job informing the public if it wants local buy-in.
