BROOKINGS S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) South Dakota State University Extension and McCrory Gardens will start their summer programming season with the Garden Discovery Festival on May 19, 2024. Held annually, the Garden Discovery Festival includes plant sales, educational booths with hands-on activities, local food vendors, a garden tour and expert presentations.

This year’s expert presentations focus on water, starting with John McMaine, Griffith Endowed Assistant Professor and SDSU Extension Water Management Engineer, who will present on rainwater harvesting for backyards and gardens.  Other presentations will include native plant landscaping and its effects on stormwater drainage and management.  The afternoon will end with a Tour of Trees led by John Ball, SDSU Extension Forestry Specialist.

The event is from 1:30pm to 4:30pm at McCrory Gardens in Brookings on May 19.  The newly remodeled cottage at McCrory Gardens will be unveiled and dedicated, followed by free SDSU ice cream.
